Club Types

Are you looking  for a specific golf club but want to look at different manufacturers before purchasing your new golf club? Perhaps, you are looking for a new Driver for when you next step out on to the 1st tee. By searching through this option, you can look at our entire range of golf clubs from all the major manafacturers of golf clubs and golf equipment, and many more. This category lets you narrow down our range into the golf club you want, it gives you seven different options to choose from. Drivers for of the tee, fairway woods for those long shots off the tee or on the fairway, irons for getting the ball onto the green or at least near it, and wedges and putters for your short game.

We also offer information on and sell hybrid golf clubs, which are specially developed clubs to replace long irons such as the 3 iron, or a small wood, like a 7 wood. The hybrids help new and progressing golfers to knock shots off their scores by giving them a club that is easy to hit off the fairway or out of the rough, they are more accurate and give the golf a better chance of getting the ball on the green from beyond 180 yards.

Hybrids are not the only golf clubs that can help new and developing golfer today. Swing trainers get help a golfer get a correct and consistent swing so that they can hit a great shot with a good distance and correct trajectory every time they step up to the golf ball with their golf club in hand. Swing trainers come in varies shapes and sizes today, an example of a swing training golf club is the “Swing Guide”,(see featured video on home page for further information.) Some trainer can be full length clubs but heavier to help build up the muscles in your body that are used in a swing, some can be just a handle with a laser on the end to see what path the club take at all points in your swing, and other can be golf clubs that you can use on a course like a hybrid as well as train with.

Feel free to look through our website and read the information to help you chose the right golf clubs to buy to be a better golfer.

Drivers

Drivers

Most golfer will only use their drivers on the tee, and so when looking for a new driver one needs to understand that a driver will never be taken of the ground, so most drivers are longer than any other golf clubs because a golfer needs to stand back to get the full use of his arm’s lever action. With woods many golfers find that they use a different swing to that which they would use normally, I myself was always told that an iron had to pinch the ball to get the golf ball airborne, so I have a high classical swing to come down on the ball. However, with a driver I have a much lower swing the club comes in hard and straight, to get maximum power from the golf club.

To help you choose your next driver we have tested a number of drivers and created our top five premium drivers that are also available on this website. Here is the list we comprised:

5) Callaway Fti

4) Nike SQ sumo 5900

2=) Cobra Speed LD and Ping G10

1) Taylor Made Burner

We also thought it would be good,, if we also published the table we made and showed by what basis we crown the Taylor Made Burner driver, which was a truly sensational golf club, king of the drivers. We marked each club out of fifty points. A possible ten marks each were awarded for Accuracy, the Distance it achieve compared in our hands compared to a normal driver, forgiveness, how far It went off course if we failed to connectthe golf with th sweet spot, appearance and finally, value for money.

Fairway Woods

Fairway Woods

Fairway woods, so useful aren’t they. You can take them off the tee if you desire more accuracy or use them on the fairways of those long par 5s. It is hard to tell what makes a good fairway, some golfer prefer the small head to swing through the ball, other like to have a bigger sized head to ensure a good contact is made between the head of the golf club and the golf ball. However this question is not without answer and our testers at www. buy-clubs.com have compiled a list of our top five fairway wood range, so in ascending order:

5) Callaway Big Bertha Fairway Wood-The new Big Bertha series have proved to the golfing world that the clever people at Callaway have now design not only another fantastic set of irons but a extremely good complete set. Callaway have also maintained that the Big Berthas are for anybody, but I must stop them there. From all of the testing we and others have done it is clear that the Big Bertha is far more suited to the higher handicappers. They offer consistency and accuracy, everything a novice golfer needs. This club is no exception the even bigger club head volume reduce the chance of slicing or hooking off centre hits. The longer shallower face that seems to be a feature of this top five makes it very easy for a golfer to get the ball airborne. At a very reasonable $199:99 (£119:99) in most shops, it is a good purchase for novice golfers.

4) Nike Sumo 2 Fairway Wood-Not much to say about this club, standard Nike quality, fantastic. Easy to use for all golfer, what impresed us the most was its large sweet spot which meant we could hit the ball with this golf club from all lies. Also, very pleasing price tag, usually about $159:99 (£95:95)

3) Ping G10 Fairway Wood-Graphite shaft works weel with this club, good for all types of lies. Again longer head and shallow face, and it has a low centre of gravity which provides higher ball velocity and more spin. Costs about $219:00 (£131:00), which actually dropped this golf club from secongd to third, when you look at the other orices it is a bit stupid.

2) Cleveland HiBore XLS Fairway Wood-Of course this is the latest version of the HiBore, only really change is the 24% more volume in the club head, which moves the weight lower and deeper into the club head, and the price is good compared to most, $179:99 (£107:95)

1) TaylorMade Burner Steel Fairway Wood-Well this was our clear winner, just like the driver. It was light, easy to launch the golf ball high with, and trendous forgiveness. Seeing as it is usually $199:99 (£119:99) I would recommend this golf club to any golfer out there.

Hybrids

Hybrids

Hybrids were first developed to help golfer that struggled to hit long irons, they were also, due to there small head, easier to hit out the light or medium rough and so this gave way to the name “rescue wood”. The reason they replaced, almost, the longer irons, was because many golfers including myself prefered to us woods rather than irons when trying to achieve maximum distance with a club. An iron has to be swung forcefully to gain any real yards, were as a small headed wood can easily get distance with out the golfer having to break to sweat. You may ask then what is the difference between a hybrid wood or a “rescue” wood and a 7 wood for instance. Well as I have mentioned the hybrids are said to be better out of the rough, but I put it down to the design differences. A 7 wood is a small headed wood, but still longer than any iron, and long shafted. Whereas a hybrid is an iron with more meat to it, like a mallet putter, you take the 3 iron for example then stick more weight at the rear, but it still has the same angle as the iron, and the accuracy advantage that an iron has over a wood.
With this information in mind we test the leading manufacturer’s latest hybrids on the market and we came up with are top five so in ascending order…

5) Ping G10-It comes in the following lofts:15,18,21,24,28,32. This club pleased all the testers because it gave everybody consistency, it was tremendously forgiving with off centre hits. It had the forgiveness and the trajectory of an iron, but with more distance to play with. At a even $120 (£72),  it’s a good golf club to have in the bag.

4) Titleist 585-H-This club divided all the tester here at www.buy-clubs.com. The only thing we could agree with was that it suits low handicapped golfers because this hybrid has a low launch angle and very little spin, pros will like the penetrating angle of attack, to real hit the pin. So good for head winds, but at $160 (£96) is it worth it, if you are a pro, and want a 17 decree loft, maybe

3) TaylorMade Burner Rescue-Comes with either a 19, 22, 25 or 28 decree loft, and is perfect for mid to low handicapper. It looks surprisingly like a 7 wood as opposed to a normal rescue wood, but it certainly breeds confidence in the owner. $125 (£75).

2) Cleveland Hibore XLS-It come with either a 18, 19, 22, 25 or 28 decree loft, the most user friendly of all the hybrid golf clubs we tested. The Hibore is Cleveland’s replacement of their Halo series, we can’t see much difference, having said that they are both sensational golf clubs, and very good value $99 (£59).

1) Cobra Baffler DWS-We chose this club as the best because of one thing, we believe hybrids are in the bag to replace the 3 and 4 irons, and this club is the perfect replacement, it come with a 16, 18, 20, 23, 26, 29 decree loft and a good price, $120 (£72).

Irons

Irons

Still one of the greatest skills in the game is the approach shot, and with many golfer of all abilities chosing to trade in their long irons for hybrids, irons seem to only be used for approach shots. On of the hard things to do on many greens is to control the spin and make the ball stop near the pin. The better a golfer is with his mid to short irons the more he can attack the pin. If any novice golfer out there that is hitting around of above ninety, we at www. buy-clubs.com will give you this advice, if you improve your accuracy of your iron shot, so that you can place the ball on the green from anywhere between 150 and 60 yards you can skip out difficult chip shots and get rid of those ugly double and triple bogeys on card.

You will find that in this category one can access good sound advice for informed purchases, and we have to save you having to bother, have tested all the new irons sets on the market today. We have come up with our top five iron sets for you to read and we have published our results table to show you exactly what made these golf clubs our top five.

5=) Callaway X20-We found that this club was more suited for the lower handicappers, we found that this golf club was for golfer who needed to hit precison shots, go from hitting the green to attacking the flag.

5=) Ping G10-This we recommend to thos who want consistency, Ping have forty years of making great golf clubs, if you have had Ping golf clubs before and got on with them then get the Ping G10, they will not disappoint.

3) King Cobra s9-Definitely the most forgiving golf club on the market, it has a low centre of gravity in the head, this gives the golf club a solid feel. It best featur though is it large sweet spot and fantastic vibration damping. We recommend this set of irons for mid range handicappers.

2) Nike SQ Sumo-One of the ugliest looking clubs on the market, yet it gives a player security with his ball striking. By all means buy it but live with its looks.

1) Callaway Big Bertha 2008-This years range of Big Berthas are exceptional, it gives a player all the consistenct, accuracy, and powern in their iron shots. We would definitely recommend this club to the older golfer, a slower, classical swing style suits this club, not cheap but worth it.

Wedges

Wedges

Sometimes in golf the hardest shots are the little dinks around the green, give them too much and the golf ball races across the surface of the green, too little and the ball goes nowhere. Having reach the fringe of the green in two shots you end having a triple Bogey at a par 4. This, as I remember was the worst thing about being a novice, the time when you messed up a hole because a was useless at chip shots. Nowadays I simply put the ball on the green with my irons and then putt, I was amazed at how many shots I could knock of my score by avoiding having to get out the sand wedge or lob wedge.

I have though found that having a good and trusty wedge in the bag very useful for when I get into trouble in the sand of around the green. In the same fashion that we’ve made the rest of this category we tested the best wedges on the market to obtain our top five. So in ascending order…

5)Nike Tiger Woods-Most certainly the best that Nike have every made, it is heavy,so best mixed with the a slow rhythmic swing, this makes the balance of the club is near perfect. It is made from 1030 carbon steel, which gives the golf club a soft feel with plenty of feedback, a well made club at a good price $79:99 (£47:99).

4) Callaway X Tour-This is a club for all golfers, it is because it is usually slightly more expensive, but it gives unrivalled spin and stop.

3)Ping Tour-W-A personal favourite of mine, this club is faultless, it was by far the most accurate we every tested. What makes this golf club unique is its weight insert in the rear of the club head, which is for a soft touch.

2) TaylorMade Z-TP-This is the new revamped version of the TaylorMade RAC wedges, which were very good and popular golf clubs. If this test was based on looks alone it would win hands down, no argument, it is a beautiful looking wedges, worth having in your bag as mere decoration. But it is not just a pretty golf club, it has perfect wight and balance making this a truly spectacular wedge, with a reasonable price tag $79:99 (£47:99).

1) Titleist Vokey-This club has everything and more, it was easily the winner, because it was created by player feedback, not computer data, and that is so evident when you hold it and use the club. Ever so slightly more expensive but worth it, $90:00 (£54:00).

Putters

Putters

There are many areas in golf, driving ,iron shots, but the one that many people think is the key to golf is the short game and putting is a massive part of that. Today manufacturers seem to have the most leniency with putters, gone are the days of just having normal blade putters, on TV you will see pros use some of the  most bizarre shaped putters. The company Odyssey really lead the way with the release of the “Two Ball Putter” that is what we call a mallet putter, with a massive weigh on the back to make the putter heavier and more pendulum like. But now one can also purchase a  “techno” putter, I don’t know if that is the official term but that is what we call them on this website, which weight at the back but either side of where the putter face meets the golf ball, rather like tongs on the back of the club.

We set out to find out the best putter there is on the market and on this website you will have the oppotunity to find out plenty of information and purchase it for alot less than the retail price. We started by findind out what the magasines thought were the best putters in each of the three categories, and this is what we found.

Best…

Blade putter: Ping Redwood

Mallet Putter: Ping Redwood Piper

Techno Putter:Odyssey White Hot XG Sabretooth

We decided to test them to find out which of these champions was the champion of the champions. We marked each one out of forty marks, a possible ten marks were awarded for the following, how easy it was to get the line right with our normal routine, feel in our hands, balance of the club in the swing, and appearance.

As you can see the Odyssey Whith Hot XG Sabretooth won. It was a brilliant putter, it had come out just after TaylorMade released the Spider, which everybody said was the best putter out but this golf club knocked it out of the water. You will never miss a short putt with it, it just oozes confidence, which is so crucial for putting, I would go as far as saying that it is a must have golf club.

Training Clubs

Training Clubs

Today there is a lot of analysis doe on one’s swing. Why? Well for a start a swing is on of the two important pillars that make a golfer good, the other is a good golf brain, knowing what club to use where, knowing the smart plays and one’s own game well enough to know one’s limitations.

Swing trainer are there to help novice players and even golfer that have been playing the game of golf for a number of years. The principles of a golfer’s swing are aexactly the same as those of a pitcher in baseball or a bowler in cricket, it needs to use every bit of the player’s ability and most importantly be repeatable so that every time he or she swings the club they swing the same way. If one obtains a repeatable action, one will achieve accuracy, it is as simple as that. Here are a few swing trainers out there at the moment that we recommend.

The Speed Stick-This is purely a training club, a golfer would use this stick to warm up, it is heavier than a normal club and so help build muscle tone in the muscle that are used in a person’s swing. It is usually about $99:95 (£54:99) at retail price, but it is endorsed by Vijay Singh and he doesn’t exactly need the money so he must at least think the product works.

Butch Harmon Laser Trainer-Trainer of stars, such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, Butch Harmon is a name that you can trust. The laser trainer is designed to show exactly what path your club takes in your swing and not that expensive, $59:99 (£35:99).

Swing Scope-This is the first of its kind, it gives bio feedback, to help a golfer utilise all the golf specific muscle to ingrain the correct muscle memory. Sounds complex but it come with a standard price tag, $99:95 (£54:99).

Momentus Golf Indoor Driver-This is basically just as the name says, an indoor driver, the shaft ifs heavier but shortened to let you swing a club anywhere anytime. It is though, a tad pricey at $99:95 (£54:99), because it is nothing special, however if you have back problems and play golf now and again, it could be the best $99:95 (£54:99) you ever spent (no granatees though, I don’t clame to be an orthopaedic specialist), it will help you keep your muscles active between trips to the golf course, so you don’t have a back spasm on the 1st tee.
