Fairway Woods

Fairway woods, so useful aren’t they. You can take them off the tee if you desire more accuracy or use them on the fairways of those long par 5s. It is hard to tell what makes a good fairway, some golfer prefer the small head to swing through the ball, other like to have a bigger sized head to ensure a good contact is made between the head of the golf club and the golf ball. However this question is not without answer and our testers at www. buy-clubs.com have compiled a list of our top five fairway wood range, so in ascending order:

5) Callaway Big Bertha Fairway Wood-The new Big Bertha series have proved to the golfing world that the clever people at Callaway have now design not only another fantastic set of irons but a extremely good complete set. Callaway have also maintained that the Big Berthas are for anybody, but I must stop them there. From all of the testing we and others have done it is clear that the Big Bertha is far more suited to the higher handicappers. They offer consistency and accuracy, everything a novice golfer needs. This club is no exception the even bigger club head volume reduce the chance of slicing or hooking off centre hits. The longer shallower face that seems to be a feature of this top five makes it very easy for a golfer to get the ball airborne. At a very reasonable $199:99 (£119:99) in most shops, it is a good purchase for novice golfers.

4) Nike Sumo 2 Fairway Wood-Not much to say about this club, standard Nike quality, fantastic. Easy to use for all golfer, what impresed us the most was its large sweet spot which meant we could hit the ball with this golf club from all lies. Also, very pleasing price tag, usually about $159:99 (£95:95)

3) Ping G10 Fairway Wood-Graphite shaft works weel with this club, good for all types of lies. Again longer head and shallow face, and it has a low centre of gravity which provides higher ball velocity and more spin. Costs about $219:00 (£131:00), which actually dropped this golf club from secongd to third, when you look at the other orices it is a bit stupid.

2) Cleveland HiBore XLS Fairway Wood-Of course this is the latest version of the HiBore, only really change is the 24% more volume in the club head, which moves the weight lower and deeper into the club head, and the price is good compared to most, $179:99 (£107:95)

1) TaylorMade Burner Steel Fairway Wood-Well this was our clear winner, just like the driver. It was light, easy to launch the golf ball high with, and trendous forgiveness. Seeing as it is usually $199:99 (£119:99) I would recommend this golf club to any golfer out there.
